Vietnam targets bigger tea export in 2010

Vietnam has targeted to ship abroad 140,000 tons of tea worth 190 million U.S. dollars in 2010, up from anticipated 105,000 tons valued at 110 million dollars in 2006, according to the Vietnam Tea Association on Wednesday.

Vietnam is expanding export markets, intensifying trade promotion, raising tea's quality, and building the products' trademarks.

Now, export prices of Vietnamese tea are equal to 55-70 percent of those of other countries' similar products, said the association.

The country sold overseas 89,000 tons of tea worth 100 million dollars in 2005, down 10.2 percent in volume and up 4.6 percent in value, said the association.

Vietnam, home to 600 tea enterprises, currently houses some 110, 000 hectares of tea trees.
