A visiting British lawmaker said on Wednesday that Syria can play a very important role in solving problems in the Middle East, Syria's official SANA news agency reported.
Michael Ancram, a former shadow secretary of state for foreign and commonwealth affairs, made the remarks after a meeting with Syrian Vice President Farouk al-Shara.
"We discussed all problems in the region," Ancram said, describing his meeting with al-Shara as productive and useful.
Al-Shara and Ancram also discussed the situation in Lebanon, Iraq and Palestine. Ancram underlined Syria's important role in solving pending issues and realizing a just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East, SANA said.
