Vietnam welcomes U.S. extradition of suspected terrorist to ThailandVietnam welcomes the United States' recent decision on extraditing a U.S. citizen of Vietnamese origin to Thailand for the charge of attempting to bomb the Vietnamese embassy in Thailand in 2001, a local spokesman said Thursday. The extradition is quite necessary in preventing similar bombings, contributing to protecting foreign agencies in Thailand and showing the Asean country's strict law in anti-terrorism fight, spokesman of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Le Dung said at a regular press briefing. The Vietnamese American man named Vo Van Duc, 46, was arrested after coming back to the United States from a trip to Bangkok, Thailand, in 2001. The bombs placed by Duc's accomplice were wired to a cell-phone detonator, but failed to explode when the device was triggered. Source: Xinhua |
