Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan left for the United States on Monday to attend the Alliance of Civilizations Implementation Process Meeting in New York between Dec. 18 and 19, the semi-official Anatolia news agency reported.
Anatolia said that the prime minister, who flew to the U.S. accompanied by Turkish State Minister and Chief Negotiator for the European Union Ali Babacan and State Minister Mehmet Aydin, would meet his Spanish counterpart Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero and United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan during his stay in America.
It added that a final document would be signed about the Alliance of Civilizations Project co-chaired by Turkey and Spain at the meeting.
The Alliance of Civilizations initiative, which was launched in November 2005 by Turkey and Spain, is a high-level UN organization consisting of 18 members with a task to promote communication and alliance among civilizations, especially between the West and the Islamic world.
