Bush suspends moving U.S. embassy to Jerusalem for six months
font size

U.S. President George W. Bush has decided to suspend for a period of six month of moving U.S. embassy to Jerusalem, Bush said in a memorandum to Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on Monday.

In the memorandum, Bush said it is necessary to protect the " national security interests" of the United States to suspend for six months the limitation set forth in the Jerusalem Embassy Act, passed by the Congress in 1995.

However, "my administration remains committed to beginning the process of moving our embassy to Jerusalem," Bush said.

Bush, who has pledged to support the controversial Jerusalem Embassy Act, has used his presidential power to suspend the act every six months.

The U.S. embassy to Israel has been located in Tel Aviv.
