Twelve China-made high-power diesel locomotives are to be the first of their kind exported to South America when they leave for Venezuela from this month.

Two of the 3,680-kw, DF8B-type locomotives have been transported to Shanghai Port for export, said Yang Li, sales manager of Qishuyan Locomotive and Rolling Stock Works.

The other ten are expected to be shipped to Venezuela early next year in a 20-million-U.S.-dollar deal, said Yang.

The company, based in Changzhou City, east China's Jiangsu Province, owns all the intellectual property rights of the locomotives, said Yang.

Yang said the locomotives had been adapted for the Venezuelan environment with its high temperatures and humidity.

A subsidiary of China South Locomotive and Rolling Stock Industry (Group) Corporation, Qishuyan Locomotive has an annual production capacity of 200 locomotives and a servicing capacity of 300.

The firm's locomotives have been exported to countries in North America and Southeast Asia.

In December last year, it exported 12 DF7G-C diesel-electric locomotives to Cuba.
