China and Kazakhstan on Wednesday pledged to expand their cooperation on international affairs as Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev paid a state visit to Beijing.
Their pledge came out of the document titled "China-Kazakhstan Cooperation Strategy for the 21st Century" signed between Chinese President Hu Jintao and Nazarbayev Wednesday afternoon.
The 13-page document covers China-Kazakhstan cooperation on politics, economy, security, culture and international affairs.
Earlier, Hu and Nazarbayev held about-90-minute talks in the Great Hall of the People.
"China and Kazakhstan are deeply convinced that the United Nations (UN) play a crucial role in safeguarding world peace and security," the document said.
It said the two countries think it is necessary to reform the UN, but oppose any hasty measures.
The two countries maintained that the current and new international and regional disputes be resolved by political and diplomatic means.
"It is imperative to step up anti-terror cooperation under the UN framework," the document said.
China and Kazakhstan reiterated to intensify the international nuclear non-proliferation mechanism under the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, the document said.
The two countries also vowed to make unremitting efforts to develop the cooperation on security, economy and other fields under the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
They said in the document they would like to work with Central Asian countries to expand cooperation on various fields, particularly on fighting the terrorism, extremism and separatism.
Apart from "China-Kazakhstan Cooperation Strategy for the 21st Century", Hu and Nazarbayev also sign 12 documents on economy, energy, finance, education, transportation.
Nazarbayev was in Beijing for a five-day state visit, the first since he won a re-election last December. Nazarbayev is scheduled to meet with top legislator Wu Bangguo and Premier Wen Jiabao. The visit will also take him to Hong Kong and Macao.
