Japan urges Iran to accept UN resolution

Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Aso talked with his Iranian counterpart Manouchehr Mottaki through telephone and urged Iran to accept the UN Security Council resolution for sanctions.

Aso told Mottaki in the 40-minute conversation that there is no choice for Iran but to stop its uranium enrichment operation and return to the negotiation table.

Mottaki reiterated his country's right to the peaceful use of nuclear energy and expressed disappointment that the Security Council opposed such a right, Kyodo News reported, quoting government officials.

The UN Security Council voted unanimously on Saturday to pass a resolution imposing sanctions against Iran over its controversial nuclear activities.
