Wrongdoing cases detected by the Government Inspectorate of Vietnam have so far this year resulted in total economic losses of 102.5 million U.S. dollars to the state budget, nearly equaling the amount between 2002 and 2004, local media reported Wednesday.
The inspectorate said in a report presented at a monthly government meeting on Tuesday that it has conducted 30 inspection cases, mainly at large state-owned corporations and state-funded projects this year, unearthing economic wrongdoings worth 1,560 billion Vietnamese dong (VND) (97.5 million dollars) and over 5 million dollars, according to the newspaper Young People.
The country's inspection sector has so far this year detected economic wrongdoing cases at various entities using state funds nationwide worth over 7.3 trillion VND (roughly 456.3 million dollars).
The inspectorate suggested Vietnam should combat corruption more vigorously next year by using more specific measures, including bringing to court some big corruption cases, the newspaper said.
