The Hamas-led government expressed on Thursday fears over President Mahmoud Abbas' proposal for back- door talks with Israel.
"Preparations for peace talks with Israel should come through a Palestinian agreement and united vision to resolve outstanding problems," government spokesman Ghazi Hamad told reporters.
After his talks with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak on Wednesday in Cairo, Abbas renewed call for closed-door negotiations to settle final-status issues between Israel and the Palestinians.
Hamad also said that back-door talks "do not meet the Palestinians' expectations," adding that Palestinian issues are " clear and public and should not be discussed under the table."
He said that Abbas did not brief the government on results of his meeting with Mubarak.
"This negatively affected mutual trust and cooperation between the government and the presidency," Hamad said.
Hamas, bent on Israel's destruction, has been in a fierce power struggle with Fatah led by moderate President Abbas.
Abbas has called for early parliamentary and presidential elections to end internal crisis ignited by international sanctions on the Hamas-led government.
