Vital Kamerhe has been elected president of the National Assembly of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) by winning 388 of total 432 votes.
Kamerhe was general secretary of the DRC's People Party For Reconstruction and Democracy (PPRD). The election of Kamerhe on Thursday had been made easier by the withdrawal of his rival, Tshongo Tshibinkubula wa Ntumba who is the deputy general secretary of the PPRD.
The voting had been secret polls for each candidate and the winners are those with absolute majority, said Chairperson of the interim House Joseph Mbenza Thubi whose mandate has ended with the election of Kamerhe.
