A culture center, donated by Chinese government, was inaugurated Tuesday at Narandi village in northern Bangladesh.

At the inaugurating ceremony, Zainul Abedin, executive director of the Narandi China Friendship Center, expressed thanks to the Chinese government for establishing this center. He said the center will become a human resources development center.

"It will be a vocational center, where boys and girls learn computer technology and where all types of newspapers, magazines and books are available," he said.

Located at Narandi village, about 80 km north of Dhaka, the two- story center includes a computer room, a library, an auditorium and an entertainment center.

All the 10 computers and some books at the center are also donated by China.

At the library, there are all kinds of magazines and books, including Chinese weekly magazine Beijing Review, English version of Chinese books like Mao Zedong on Diplomacy, Islam in China, China Sports, etc.

Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Chai Xi said he was happy and grateful to see this new friendship center established here. He said the Chinese books and VCDs are available at the center, which can help people of this area to learn the Chinese culture.

"Chinese trainers will be sent to this center to help train villagers so that they can get more job opportunities," he said. He hoped the relationship between China and Bangladesh will become closer and closer.

The villagers performed Bangladeshi traditional singing, dancing and drama at the ceremony.
