Mexico to launch second massive anti-drug operationThe Mexican government on Tuesday announced that it will launch its second massive anti-drug operation, coordinated by the military and police in the northern Mexican state of Baja California. The operation, which would involve nearly 3,300 members of federal police, military soldiers and naval forces, is aimed at fighting the increasing drug trafficking in the region, according to Interior Minister Francisco Ramirez Acuna. The minister added that the crime rates in Tijuana, which borders San Ysidro, a city in the state of California in the United States, had risen to a point that could not be ignored. The operation comes a month after some 7,000 soldiers and federal police were sent to the eastern state of Michoacan to combat violence led by drug traffickers. Source: Xinhua |
