U.S. alerts Americans in Thailand for security
font size

The U.S. State Department alerted Americans who live in Thailand or plan to travel there to be vigilant and avoid large public gatherings in the wake of deadly New Year's Eve bombings in Bangkok, the AP said in a report on Wednesday.

As a result of the bombings that took place in the Thai capital in the midst of New Year's celebrations, all Americans residing in or traveling to Bangkok should "continue to monitor events closely, to remain indoors when possible, to avoid any large public gatherings and to exercise discretion when moving about Bangkok," the report said, citing a State Department public announcement.

A series of bombings hit Bangkok on early New Year's Eve and shortly after midnight, killing three persons and injuring some 40 others.
