Iraqi officer killed in bomb attack in north of Baghdad
font size

An Iraqi army officer was killed and four of his soldiers wounded in a roadside bomb attack in a town in north of Baghdad late on Thursday, a U.S. and Iraqi liaison office said on Friday.

"A roadside bomb hit an Iraqi army vehicle in the town of Beiji, some 200 km north of Baghdad, destroying the vehicle and killing an officer and wounding four soldiers aboard," a source from the Joint Coordination Center in Tikrit told Xinhua.

The town, some 35 km north of Saddam's hometown of Tikrit, is a bastion of Saddam loyalists who fight the U.S. and Iraqi government forces since the occupation in 2003.
