font size

The chief of Baghdad police survived a car bomb blast near his convoy in central the capital on Saturday, an Interior Ministry source said.

"Major General Ali al-Yassery, chief of Baghdad police, survived unhurt when a car bomb parking near a fuel station in the al-Nidhal Street detonated," the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

The attack killed one civilian and wounding three people, including two policemen, along with destroying several cars, including police vehicles, the source said.

Hours earlier, a roadside bomb went off near a police patrol in the Sina'a Street in eastern Baghdad, damaging a police vehicle and wounding a policeman and a civilian, the source added.

Insurgents frequently attack Iraqi security forces accusing them of collaborating with the U.S. occupation.
