The kidnapped AFP photographer in Gaza is in good health and has received good treatment by his Palestinian captors, chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat in Ramallah revealed on Saturday.
Saeb Erekat hold a joint news conference with Peruvian deputy foreign minister Gonzalo Gutierrez in Ramallah, in which Gutierrez told reporters that the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) and the captors, who hold Peruvian photographer Jaime Razuri in Gaza, made a contact about the deal.
"All information indicates that there is a room for successful solution to this crisis very soon," said Gutierrez, who is in Palestinian territories to negotiate Razuri's release.
A week ago, a group of unknown gunmen kidnapped Razuri, a Peruvian working for AFP, at gunpoint in front of Agence France Presse (AFP) office in Gaza city.
For his part, Erekat said that Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas follow the issue personally, and the Palestinian people were shamed for the kidnapping of foreign journalists.
About 20 journalists were abducted in Gaza Strip in 2006 but released unharmed, according to media report.
In recent months, a state of lawlessness and security chaos became very common in Gaza Strip where militiamen from the governing Hamas and rival Fatah used to fight on streets.
"The crisis has widened in the Palestinian Territories and the only solution must be by forming a national unity government," concluded Erekat.
