A car bomb went off near a U.S. patrol in south of Baghdad area on Sunday, killing two U.S. soldiers, a police source said.
"A car bomb went off at about 10:30 a.m. (0730 GMT) near a U.S. patrol in the al-Rasheed area in Yousifiyah town, some 20 km south of Baghdad," the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.
Iraqi police at the scene reported that the blast damaged a U.S. Humvee and killed two soldiers aboard, the source said.
The U.S. military did not confirm the incident.
Earlier, the military said that two of its soldiers were killed in separate incidents in Baghdad and Anbar province.
A soldier was killed when insurgents attacked his patrol by small arms fire in southwestern part of the capital on Saturday. While a marine died on Friday from wounds sustained due to "enemy action" while operating in Iraq's western Anbar province, the military statements said.
The latest deaths bring the number of U.S. soldiers killed in Iraq to 3008 since March 2003, according to media count based on Pentagon figures.
