Indonesia to invite Hamas, Fatah leaders
font size

The Indonesian government plans to invite Palestine's Hamas and Fatah leaders to Indonesia for talks to reconcile the two organizations, Foreign Minister Hassan Wirayuda said Monday.

Hassan said an invitation letter was being prepared by his office.

"We could talk with Hamas leaders first. We could then hold talks with both groups," he was quoted by major national newspaper The Jakarta Post's website as saying.

Hassan said the government had postponed an earlier plan to invite the two groups to Indonesia last year after they agreed to establish a unity cabinet. But despite a series of meetings, this cabinet has not been formed.

Hassan said the government could help promote the establishment of such a cabinet this year.
