The Nepali ruling Seven Party Alliance (SPA) and the Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) signed an agreement Monday to promulgate the Interim Constitution of Nepal- 2007 after issuing it through the House of Representative on Jan. 15 and to ratify the Interim Legislature on the same day.

The agreement was signed at a meeting between the SPA and the CPN (formerly known as guerrilla) held at the prime minister's residence in Kathmandu.

As per the agreement, the reinstated House of Representatives, after passing the Interim Constitution, will be dissolved on Jan. 15.

According to Spokesperson of the CPN Krishna Bahadur Mahara, the task of arms management and monitoring by the United Nations Arms Monitoring Team will be carried out also from Jan. 15.

The agreement signed by the top leaders of all eight political parties also appealed the political parties, civil societies and general public to render assistance from their respective sides to conduct the election to the Constituent Assembly by May/June 2007 in an independent, safe and peaceful atmosphere.

In response to a query regarding the CPN joining the government and the seats allocated in the interim parliament, leader of the Nepali Congress Ram Chandra Poudel said that all the issues will be settled by Jan. 14.

All the leaders agreed to accommodate the suggestions forwarded by the Supreme Court (SC) justices regarding amendments to the interim statute, finalized and signed by the SPA and the CPN on Dec. 16, 2006.
