Captors accuse Israel of turning down Egyptian offer for prisoner exchange
font size

Captors of Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit in Gaza has accused Israel on Tuesday of hampering an Egyptian proposal to exchange the Corporal for Palestinian prisoners.

"The Egyptian offer was not far from the demands outlined by the factions that hold the soldier," said Abu Mujahed, spokesman for the Popular Resistance Committees that shares the holding of Shalit with Hamas and the Islamic Army.

"The occupation annuls all efforts including the Egyptian moves, " Abu Mujahed continued, adding that Israel wants free information about its soldier without any price.

Abu Mujahed has reiterated the three factions want the release of 1.000 people, in addition to women, children and patient in exchange for Shalit who has been held since last June.

"We can continue holding him as we did for the past six months, " the spokesman threatened.

But Abu Mujahed has confirmed that Shalit "was in good health and is being treated in accordance with Islamic morals and characters," adding that the soldier was not exposed to torture " as Israel does with our prisoners."
