The stoppage of Russian oil supply to Europe would have no direct impact on the energy supply to Romania, a government official said Tuesday.
"Romania is safe and is not directly affected by this problem, because it is not located on Druzhba's route, the pipeline through which Russian oil is transported," said Alexandru Sandulescu, general manager of the Department of Energy Policies under the Ministry of Economy and Trade.
Russia halted oil supply through the pipeline via Belarus on Monday amid bitter dispute between Moscow and Minsk over energy prices. Several European countries including Germany, Poland and Hungary have already been affected.
Romania's crude imports from Russia are mainly transported through the harbors at the Black Sea.
Sandulescu, however, warned, "Indirectly, we could be affected by the rise in international oil quotations. The private players could be affected."
Despite the crisis, the oil price in Romania dropped 3.32 percent to 54 U.S. dollars per barrel, due to higher-than-usual temperatures at this season, which resulted in lower consumption, as well as bigger crude reserves.
