Palestinian human shield prevents Israeli jets from bombarding activist home

Tens of Palestinian people, acting as human shields, thwarted an alleged Israeli airstrike on the house of an Islamic Jihad (Holy War) activist in northern Gaza Strip at predawn Wednesday.

According to Ibrahim Jum'a, a member of Saraya al-Quds Brigades of the Islamic Jihad, Israeli intelligence telephoned him late in the night and asked him to evacuate his house to be bombed in a while.

Dawoud Shhab, Islamic Jihad spokesman, was among the people who stayed atop the house. "The resistance unites our people," Shhab said, adding members of all factions were among the human shields despite factional fighting between Hamas and Fatah.

Israeli sources did not comment on the news.

The Palestinians and Israel agreed on a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip in late November.

Last year, Israeli warplanes bombed about 70 houses of militants in the Gaza Strip after warning inhabitants in advance.

Human shield tactic has succeeded in stopping Israel from targeting more houses, Palestinian sources said.
