IAEA inspectors visit Iran's nuclear sites: report

Two inspectors from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) have arrived in Iran and started to visit the country's nuclear sites, local media reported on Thursday.

The two inspectors, who arrived in Iran on Tuesday, were expected to stay in the country for one week, the English edition of the Kayhan daily reported.

The visit falls within the safeguard agreement of the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) and is viewed as the IAEA's routine inspections of Iran's nuclear sites, Kayhan said.

According to Iran's official IRNA news agency, the two inspectors visited uranium conversion installations in the central city of Isfahan.

They would also visit nuclear facilities in Natanz and hold discussions with officials of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization, IRNA said.

Iran's parliament has passed a bill urging the government to reduce its cooperation with the UN nuclear watchdog since the UN Security Council adopted a resolution on Dec. 23, 2006 to impose sanctions on Iran over its nuclear issue.

However, Iranian officials have reiterated that Tehran has no plan to retreat from the NPT.
