U.S. embassy in Greece hit by rocket explosion
font size

An explosion caused by a rocket attack rocked the U.S. embassy in central Athens early on Friday morning, but no injuries were reported, Greek police said.

Officers said the rocket, launched from a building across the street, caused a large hole in the embassy almost half meter deep.

Witnesses said the explosion was so powerful that it could be clearly heard 500 meters away.

The press office of the Greek Police Ministry is to release a statement in one hour.

Dozens of police cars surrounded the compound and officers cordoned off all roads in the area following the incident.
