U.S. diplomat holds talks with Pakistan's officials

A high level American diplomat held talks with the Pakistan's Foreign Minister and some other officials on Friday to discuss the situation in South Asia and the bilateral ties between the two countries, the state-run Pakistan Television (PTV) reported.

During the talks with Pakistan's Foreign Minister Khurshid Mehmood Kasuri, Richard Boucher, the U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs, highly appreciated Pakistan's efforts in fighting against terrorism, the PTV said.

The U.S. assistant state secretary also met with Pakistan's Interior Minister Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao and discussed Pakistan's plan to fence and mine on its border with Afghanistan as well as the proposed plan to hold jirga or council of tribal elders, according to local media reports.

Boucher arrived in Islamabad from Kabul Thursday night on two- day visit for talks on regional security especially the situation in Afghanistan.
