A Kuwait senior official on Saturday called for continued dialogue to avoid the eruption of war in light of the tensions on the Iranian nuclear issue.

Minister of Defense Sheikh Jaber al-Mubarak al-Hamad al-Sabah told local Arabic daily "Al-Rai" that the talks on the Iranian nuclear file should extend to include nuclear dangers in the Middle East as a whole.

War was not in the interest of anyone, he stressed, adding Kuwait has been carefully monitoring regional political developments.

The United States and the West have accused Iran of trying to produce nuclear weapons under a civilian cover, a charge denied by Tehran.

Due to Iran's refusal to suspend uranium enrichment, the UN Security Council adopted a resolution on Dec. 23, 2006 to impose sanctions on the country.

Sheikh Jaber, meanwhile, praised the Gulf Cooperation Council ( GCC) for its role in the region, saying that it enjoyed much credibility and could rally support for efforts to instill peace and security in the Gulf.

On Iraq, he said the Arab world must beware of escalating violence in the war-torn country, calling on the Iraqis to stand united in the interest of the country and its unity.
