The visiting U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice Sunday said that the United States would offer 586 million U.S. dollars to Palestinian security forces, pan-Arabic television channel al-Jazeera reported.

Rice made the pledge while meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in the West Bank city of Ramallah.

She explained at the joint news conference with Abbas after the meeting that the U.S. offers the money to train and equip the unified Palestinian security forces, although which was widely known as a force only loyal to Abbas.

Answering a question that which specific sectors would get the donation, Abbas said roughly that the money would be used in security infrastructure and communication system which were badly destroyed in Israeli offensive.

The money will never be abused, Abbas concluded his answer for the question.

Rice left Israel for the West Bank Sunday morning for talks with Abbas in a fresh effort to revive the stalled the Mideast peace process.

She was reported to return to Israel after her meeting with Abbas and meet Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert.
