A Chinese citizen was killed and another injured in a grenade attack in a Siberian city early Sunday, a Chinese diplomat said.

An unidentified assailant threw a grenade at the two Chinese at 2:00 a.m. local time (1700 GMT Saturday) in the eastern Siberian city of Chita, Vice Consul Cui Shaochun told Xinhua by telephone from Khabarovsk. The names of the dead and injured have not been known yet, Cui said.

Earlier, the Interfax news agency reported citing a regional police spokesman that one of the two Chinese was fatally wounded and died at the scene and police were hunting for the attacker.
