Three American soldiers were killed and five others were wounded in Iraq in separate incidents, the U.S. military said in a statement on Monday.

A soldier assigned to the 89th Military Police Brigade died Sunday of wounds sustained in a roadside bomb blast near his vehicle in north of Baghdad, the statement said.

Another soldier was killed and four others were wounded when a roadside bomb went off near their patrol in Baghdad on Sunday, the military said in a separate statement.

A third soldier, assigned to the 105th Engineer Group, died of wounds sustained in an explosion while he was conducting operations in northern Iraq on Saturday, a statement said. Another soldier was wounded in the explosion.

About 3,020 U.S. soldiers have been killed in Iraq since the U. S.-led invasion in March 2003, according to media count based on Pentagon figures.
