Nepali interim parliament's first sitting begins

The first sitting of the Nepali interim parliament, which was called by Nepali Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala, began here at 8:30 p.m. Monday evening.

The first sitting is chaired by the eldest member of the parliament Bal Bahadur Rai of the Nepali Congress.

The first sitting of the interim parliament, which includes the Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) (formerly known as guerrillas). is to ratify the Interim Constitution 2063 and is expected to hold discussion on selection of the new speaker of the interim parliament.

Interim parliament members have all sworn in.

The former parliament was dissolved after its promulgation of the Interim Constitution 2063.
