font size

At least five people were killed and 30 others wounded when a truck packed with explosions blew up at police station in central Kirkuk City north of Baghdad, local police said.

"A truck loaded with explosives, parking near the al-Quriyah police station, detonated at about 12:10 p.m. (0910 GMT)," Brigadier Burhan Taha told Xinhua by telephone.

The explosives in booby-trap truck was covered with corn when its driver parked it near the police station and left, he said.

Half of the police station's building destroyed along with nearby buildings, Taha added.

"Our first report said that five people were killed and up to 30 others wounded, including policemen," he said, adding "we expect higher toll as some people buried under debris."

Earlier, Taha said that the attack was caused by suicide bomber, but later he changed his story.
