There is "no time to lose" regarding the adoption of the EU Constitution Treaty, German ambassador to Poland Reinhard Schweppe said on Wednesday.
Schweppe said Germany, the current EU presidency, would listen to Poland's say on the matter "with attention".
"In today's globalizing world, the EU must know how to maintain its positions. Therefore, I believe the new Euroconstitution should be off the table by, say, 2008," he said.
"I believe certain things should be done on time, which at the moment we don't have. There is no time to lose on this and we must speed up work to avoid more delays," the PAP news agency quoted Schweppe as saying.
Last week Polish president Lech Kaczynski nominated two Euroconstitution commissioners to negotiate the treaty for Poland.
Poland joined the EU in 2004 and is one of the new member states that adopt a skeptical attitude towards the constitution, which was rejected by French and Dutch in referendums in 2005.
