World leading scientists including Nobel laureates will gather in the Malaysian capital this August to attend the 12th Asian Chemical Congress, local media reported Thursday.
The conference, themed "Chemistry for Development, Environment and Sustainability in Asia", will be held in the Putra World Trade Center here from Aug. 23 to 25.
It is expected to attract at least 1,500 delegates worldwide and will have some Nobel prize winners and top scientists from the United States, European Union countries, China and Japan, among others, as speakers.
According to reports of the Bernama news agency, American chemist Professor F. Sherwood Rowland, who shared the 1995 Nobel Prize in Chemistry with two other scientists, will be speaking on ozone depletion at the congress.
In conjunction with the congress, Malaysia will also host the 2007 Asia Exposition on Chemicals and Instrumentation.
The Asian Chemical Congress is a biennial flagship function of the Federation of Asian Chemical Societies (FACS).
It brings together chemists from Asia and other parts of the world to discuss the latest development in chemical knowledge, research and education.
