Two electric poles blown up in SW Pakistan

Unknown persons have blown up two electric poles in southwestern Pakistani district of Dera Bugti, disrupting power supply in Sui and adjoining areas of the district, the private Geo TV reported Thursday.

Explosives planted by unidentified militants were detonated, damaging two 35 kv electric poles at Pesh Bogi area in district Dera Bugti, some 250 km southeast of Quetta, the capital of Baluchistan province, said the report quoting sources.

It is not immediately known who launched the attack. But the past years have seen numerous attacks in Baluchistan targeting government installations and public assets, which were usually blamed on local tribal militants demanding greater autonomy and bigger royalty share of local natural resources.

Security forces have reportedly cordoned off the area to search for the culprits and teams have been called for repair of the electric lines.
