Hong Kong reports an imported case of dengue fever

The Center for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health said here Thursday that it was investigating an imported case of dengue fever and urged people to guard against the infectious disease.

The patient, a 27-year-old woman living in North Point, developed symptoms of fever and dizziness on Jan. 13, according to the CHP. She was admitted to Queen Elizabeth Hospital on Jan. 16 and is in stable condition.

Investigations revealed that she had traveled to Indonesia from November 2006, to Jan. 12, 2007. Her home contacts in Hong Kong do not have any symptoms, the CHP said.

This is the second imported dengue fever reported in Hong Kong in 2007. A total of 31 cases of dengue fever was reported in Hong Kong last year and all of them were classified as imported cases.
