Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono plans to attend a national Lunar Year celebration which will be held at the Jakarta Fair Ground in Central Jakarta on February 28, an official said here Friday.
The celebration, with the theme of "United Indonesia", is part of cultural cooperation activities between Indonesia and China, Indonesian Ambassador to China Sudradjat said after a meeting with the head of state.
Yudhoyono and his Chinese counterpart Hu Jintao signed a strategic Indonesia-China cooperation agreement in Jakarta in April 2005.
The strategic agreement covered the security, political and legal fields, investment and trade, as well as socio-cultural and inter-community affairs, Antara news agency quoted Sudradjat as saying.
Sudradjat said Chinese cultural values have greatly influenced Indonesian culture.
"The number of Indonesian citizens of Chinese descent in Indonesia is over 10 million. Chinese culture entered Indonesia 600 years ago," he said.
Quoting the president, Sudradjat said Indonesians of Chinese descent were an inseparable part of the Indonesian nation.
