Pakistani PM leaves for Davos World Economic Forum

Pakistani Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz left here Wednesday for the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum being held in Davos, Switzerland from Jan. 24 to 28.

Before departure, Aziz told reporters that the event, a get-to- gather of major world leaders, entrepreneurs and heads of financial institutions, will provide Pakistan an opportunity to project its views on various issues, according to the state-run Associated Press of Pakistan (APP).

Aziz was quoted as saying that he will project Pakistan as a growing economy, with moderate and forward-looking approach and having an important role in ensuring peace in the region as well as in the world.

Accordingly, Aziz will be among the key speakers at the Forum in several sessions, including the West-Islamic Dialogue in the Council of 100 Leaders and the Plenary Sessions on Comprehensive Response to Terrorism, and Stopping the Spread of the Nuclear Weapons.

Aziz said he would hold bilateral meetings with leaders of various countries, besides having discussions with the heads of international financial institutions and entrepreneurs, the APP report said.

The visit will also offer an opportunity to put in perspective Pakistan's Afghan policy as well as its determination in confronting terrorism and extremism, according to the report.

The prime minister reportedly will also brief his interlocutors on the composite dialogue process with India, the Kashmir issue and development at home.
