U.S. launches 2nd round of strikes on suspected al Qaeda targets in Somalia
font size

The U.S. has launched a second round of air strikes this month against suspected al Qaeda targets in southern Somalia, the CNN reported Wednesday.

The operation was carried out by an Air Force AC-130 gunship, but it was not known immediately if the strikes were successful, Pentagon officials were quoted as saying.

On Jan. 7, the U.S. military launched an air strike against targets of suspected of al Qaeda operations in southern Somalia, based on intelligence that al Qaeda operatives were in that location.

An AC-130 gunship, operated by the Special Operations Command, flew from its base in Djibouti to the southern tip of Somalia, killing eight to 10 people.
