Myanmar top leader Senior-General Than Shwe has urged teacher trainees of a national race university to nurture educative native youths in remote and backward border areas to become valuable human resources qualified to develop their own regions, the official newspaper New Light of Myanmar reported Friday.
Noting that native children of border areas did not have access to education in the past out of disconnection between the areas and central regions of the nation, Than Shwe, Chairman of the State Peace and Development Council, who met the teacher trainees in Nay Pyi Taw Thursday, called for bringing out more intellectuals of nationalities to take part in national construction for equal development of all the regions in the country.
Citing the on-going constitutional national convention, Than Shwe stressed the need to build firm foundation for the emergence of a peaceful, modern and developed nation with flourishing discipline by restoration of peace and stability and prevalence of law and order across the nation as the first requirement.
The second requirement, he emphasized, is a strong national economy for developing the nation on par with other countries, citing some construction projects in the border areas.
He outlined the third requirement as to promote the education standard of the nationalities to be able to practice discipline- flourishing democracy for ensuring perpetual existence of the union.
Myanmar is a country with many nationalities, mainly including Kachin, Kayah, Kayin, Chin, Mon, Bamar, Rakhine and Shan which have constituted their own states and divisions.
