Number of border crossings in China hits 318 million in 2006

The total number of border crossings in to and out of China reached 318 million in 2006, up 5.4 percent from 2005.

Some 4.454 million passports were stamped by the Public Security Bureau's exit-entry administration, up 13 percent from 2005. Approximately 17.319 million mainland residents entered or exited Hong Kong and Macau, up 17.4 percent from 2005.

The figures were announced by Li Changyou, the deputy director of the Public Security Bureau's Exit-Entry Administration Bureau on January 25.
