Iran said on Sunday that it takes time to review UN nuclear watchdog chief Mohamed ElBaradei's "timeout" proposal, which calls for simultaneous suspension of Iran 's uranium enrichment work and UN sanctions.
"We should spend enough time to review (the proposal)," Iranian Supreme National Security Council Secretary Ali Larijani told a joint press conference with his visiting Russian counterpart Igor Ivanov, who arrived in Tehran Saturday night.
"Such a proposal should be examined to see if it can resolve the (nuclear) issue," he added.
ElBaradei, chief of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), proposed the simultaneous "timeout" plan on Friday during the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
Commenting on the "timeout" proposal, Ivanov said that it "can be considered" and a political solution could be found through this suggestion if both sides agreed to it.
"We are currently discussing to remove obstacles from the way of negotiations," Ivanov said, adding that there was "no military solution" to Iran's nuclear issue.
The UN Security Council adopted Resolution 1737 on Dec. 23, 2006, demanding Iran to "suspend all enrichment-related and reprocessing activities, including research and development, and work on all heavy water-related projects."
However, Iran has rejected the resolution as an "illegal measure" and vowed to continue the country's nuclear programs.
