China continues efforts to rescue missing oil workers in Nigeria
font size

China is going all out to rescue the nine Chinese oil workers who are missing after being attacked by an armed group in Nigeria, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Jiang Yu said on Monday.

"The Chinese government is very concerned about the security of the nine workers. Their company and the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria are continuing to do all they can to rescue the workers," said Jiang.

Jiang made the remarks in response to a question on the current situation of the missing workers.

A Chinese oil company compound was attacked by an unidentified group in southern Nigeria last Thursday. Nine workers are missing and the others have been removed to a safe place, according to a statement from China's Foreign Ministry.

The attack came four days after five Chinese telecom workers returned home after being held hostage in Nigeria. They were captured by unidentified armed men on Jan. 5 in the southern Nigerian state of Rivers and released 13 days later on Jan. 17.
