Three million to be lifted out of poverty in 2007

China will put at least one million people through skill training programs this year, reducing the number of people living below the poverty line by three million, according to the Poverty Alleviation and Development Unit of the State Council.

To alleviate poverty China will focus on training and transferring the work force.

At present, a large percentage of the population lives below the poverty line and the disadvantageous status of this group challenge China's poverty alleviation efforts.

According to current figures, there are 85.17 million people living below the poverty line in China.
