The United States strongly condemned a Palestinian suicide bombing that left three people dead in Israel's southern resort city of Eilat on Monday.
"The United States strongly condemns the terrorist bombing in Eilat today, which resulted in the death of at least three civilians. Our condolences go out to the victims, their families, and the people of Israel," the White House said in a statement.
"We also condemn those Palestinian terrorist groups, including Hamas, that condone these barbaric actions," the statement said.
The statement went on to say that the burden of responsibility for preventing "terrorist attacks" rests with the Palestinian authority, warning that failure to act against terror will inevitably effect relations between that government and the international community and undermine the aspirations of the Palestinian people for a state of their own.
At least three people were killed Monday morning by a suicide bomber, who blew himself up at a local bakery in Eilat. Three Palestinian military groups, the Islamic Jihad, the al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades, an armed wing of Palestinian National Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah movement and the previously unknown "Army of Believers" claimed responsibility for the attack.
