Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak is scheduled to meet here with visiting Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Tuesday morning to discuss ways to stop the ongoing Palestinian infighting, Egyptian official news agency MENA reported on Monday.
MENA quoted Palestinian Ambassador in Cairo Monzer al-Dajani as saying that Abbas and Mubarak will discuss latest developments on the Palestinian arena and exchange views on Egyptian and Arab mediation efforts in this regard.
Abbas, who has arrived in Cairo on Monday evening, will meet Egyptian Intelligence chief Omar Suleiman Monday night, the report said.
Egypt is exerting efforts to stop Palestinian infighting and bring Hamas and Fatah, the two major rival Palestinian movements, back to dialogue on forming of a national unity government.
Although the talks resumed last Tuesday under Egypt's mediation, Hamas announced on Saturday its withdrawal from the talks amid ongoing factional violence in Gaza.
The five-day bloody factional clashes between Hamas and Fatah show no signs of ceasing with 32 people being killed so far, despite local and regional efforts to restore calmness.
