Jordan is set to achieve maiden national records at the 6th Asian Winter Games, Prince Feisal Al Hussein said in Changchun on Monday.

Jordan is participating in its first ever Winter Asiad in Changchun. Two teenagers from the same family are going to compete in the Alpine skiing events. One is the 17-year-old Khaled Badr Eldin, the other is his 15-year-old sister Leen.

Their little brother Raja also registered in the Asian Winter Games, "But the 14-year-old is so young that we think he'd better not compete this time," said Prince Feisal, President of Jordan Olympic Committee.

"What we are expecting is that they can enjoy themselves and gain experience in the competition," Prince Feisal said, "If they can achieve good results, that's definitely great. If not, at least we would get the maiden national records here as it's the first time that the Jordanian athletes taking part in any winter events."

As a sub-tropical country with eighty percent of its territories being desert, Jordan is obviously not a winter sports nation. "We don't have skiing or skating places," said Prince Feisal, "We can only select our athletes from those who are based abroad."

But Prince Feisal insisted that the most important thing is to encourage people to join in sports and inspire them with the spirit of competition.
