font size

Located in the southwestern part of the African continent, the Republic of Namibia covers an area of 820, 000 square km and has a population of about two million, mostly being Christians or believing in primitive religions. English is the official language. Windhoek is the national capital. Namibia declared independence in 1990, marking the fact that Africa had finally completed decolonization. The current president is Hifikepunye Pohamba.

The relationship between Namibia and China has been developing smoothly since the countries established diplomatic ties on Mar 22, 1990. The two countries have signed a variety of agreements on trade, investment protection, culture, and education. Li Changchun, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau, visited Namibia in 2005. In the same year, president Pohamba visited China. Namibia has become a destination country for Chinese tourists and tourist groups. Bilateral trade came to140 million U.S. dollars in 2005.
