The Hamas-led Palestinian government Wednesday lashed out at U.S. President George W. Bush for his approval to transfer 86 million U.S. dollars to strengthen forces loyal to President Mahmoud Abbas of rival Fatah.

In a statement sent to reporters, the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas)-led government condemned the U.S. decision as interference in Palestinian's internal affairs by "funding particular sides."

"The U.S. policy aims at colonizing the people and creates internal fighting to boost American presence in the region," said the statement.

The Bush administration leads international campaign to isolate Hamas and boost the moderate Abbas who is engaged in a power struggle with the governing Hamas.

At least 33 people were killed in factional fighting between Hamas and Abbas-led Fatah, the bloodiest since President Abbas called for earlier elections last month.

The clashes started from last Thursday in Gaza and stopped on Tuesday after Egypt brokered a ceasefire.

Meanwhile, Palestinian Minister of Health Bassem Nai'em said that Prime Minister Ismail Haneya of Hamas is expected to embark on his third regional tour since Hamas took office in March.

Nai'em added that Jordan has renewed invitation for Haneya but the latest violence has blocked more discussions over this visit.
