Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi met with and visiting Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf at Malaysia's administrative center Putrajaya on Wednesday.

The two leaders discussed international issues, including peace efforts in the Middle East, Malaysia's national news agency Bernama said.

Musharraf arrived here on Wednesday for a two-day working visit to Malaysia. The Malaysian Foreign Ministry earlier said that this is the first visit by President Musharraf to Malaysia since his stopover at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport on June 13, 2005.

Malaysia and Pakistan established diplomatic ties in 1957 and both countries will mark their 50th year of diplomatic ties this year.

The Malaysian Foreign Ministry said that Malaysia and Pakistan currently are negotiating a Free Trade Agreement (FTA), the first bilateral FTA that Malaysia plans to sign with another member country of the Organization of the Islamic Conference.

The process is expected to be concluded soon, the ministry added.
